A Message from RC

Hi folks,

I know some of you live out of state and know nothing about this but I would appreciate your help. Please forward this on to as many people as you know and ask that they send an email to Sheryl to obtain information on what needs to be done.

We need to stop this cycle of oppression, the dumbing down of OUR people. I'm not gonna give you a sing song, you know all about it. Same old story, right? It's time to spin the story our way.

Step up.

Thanks.
RC

As some of you know the principal for DDSD has retired.

The department must hire a replacement. I was told a lady by the name of Cynthia Patton. Would probably be selected to replace Gretchen. Ms. Patton has no connection to deaf community and very little deaf culture knowledge and sign skills. She previously was a principal at a school for mentally impaired. No attempt has been made to involve the deaf community or parents in the selection of the new principal.

The impression I receive is that they are trying to 'sneak' her in.

Ms. Diane Sheppard has applied for the position, and it appears she is being "shut out". Some of you may be familiar with Ms Sheppard thru her work with deaf teens and the drama drug prevention program that she runs with Henry Lowe. Diane has above average signing skills and is active in deaf education circles. I have been impressed with her openess to work with the deaf community and solicit role models as well as recruit deaf teachers.

We need to act now. I am putting together a committee to approach the school board as well as plan possible protest to make sure the deafcommunity and parents of deaf kids are heard.

If you are interested in providing support, approaching school board or protesting contact me.

Feel free to send this to other parents and members of Detroit Deaf
community.

Sheryl
