Atheism. What does this mean? According to the dictionary, it means a disbelief or denial in the existence of God or gods. Someone who is an atheist does not believe in the existence of God(s).

I've always been fascinated with people who are atheists. I've always asked them, if I know them, why they are atheists and how they came to realization about being atheists. Yet, they have strong connection with people and some say they have a srong sense of being/spirituality although they do not believe in any form of God. Perhaps coming from a Christian family with deep faith and roots made me more curious about those who did not believe in the existence of a greater being, God, G-d, or higher power.

Recently, I asked few people I knew who were atheists the following questions:

1. Why are you one?

2. So, do you have a soul? or connection between your heart and mind?

3. What about spiritual relations with others? what about "souls?"

4. How do you have spirituality as an atheist? How you are spiritual even as an atheist who is logial?

So How can you be spiritual? How are you spiritual?

Their answers were:

* Spirituality is a state of mind like being in love, happy, sad, etc.

* Atheists simply do not believe in god(s).

* You don't have to believe in god to be spiritual.

* Soul is to the heart as mind is to the brain. It's not a physical thing.

* Both... Your soul and your mind are separated, but interlocked.. And when you die, they cease to exist.

* Interesting question. It was never a big deal.

* I just don't believe there is a 'supreme being.' For me, it's the logical conclusion.

* I don't think I ever believed there is a god...

* I don't think much about that either!

* I mean i love all those things like nature-- i feel connected to people
but as for the larger picture, we're born, we live, we die.

Mmmm.... some food for thoughts....
